About Cannadips and the challenge
Cannadips has been selling CBD pouches in the EU since 2016. The product uses a unique pouch delivery method with a tobacco and hemp formulation that is free from nicotine and THC.
When Cannadips migrated to a new domain and website, almost all of their organic rankings disappeared. Monthly traffic dropped from roughly 26,000 visits to around 2,000, and keyword rankings fell from roughly 2,700 to just 100. They came to NUOPTIMA with two goals: recover the traffic tied to their old domain and grow beyond their previous peak at the same time.
Cannadips chose the Growth package, which includes 25,000 words of content, six high-authority backlinks per month, and technical support for the domain consolidation.
Who we were targeting
Cannadips sells a nicotine-free, THC-free CBD pouch, a product category with its own specific search vocabulary, so the keyword plan was built directly around how buyers describe that product rather than generic CBD terms.
- CBD users and existing dip or chewing tobacco users searching bottom-of-funnel, purchase-intent terms like "cbd pouches," "cbd dips," and "tobacco dip," reflecting an audience already close to buying.
- Buyers researching a nicotine-free, THC-free alternative to traditional pouches, the exact positioning Cannadips's tobacco and hemp formulation targets.
- The keyword list was validated through direct interviews with the Cannadips team to capture the exact terms their ideal customers use, not just what competitor gap analysis suggested.

What we did
We ran a three-part plan: recover content from the old domain, consolidate a second legacy domain, and target new keywords where Cannadips had no prior ranking history.
Technical SEO: merging two domains
Audit and content inventory
We used Semrush to pull the full ranking history of the old website, then repeated the same process for cannadipscbd.com (a second domain with active rankings). Every landing page with ranking history went onto a master list. We then worked through Cannadips's content archive to match each URL to its source content, ready for republishing.
Republishing and 301 redirects
We directed Cannadips's developer to create the matching pages on the new site following the new URL structure. Where a URL changed, we required a 301 redirect from the old path to the new one. After the developer completed the work, our team audited the implementation and then republished the content across both legacy domains.
Site speed and crawlability
Beyond the content migration, we recommended four technical improvements: connecting Shopify CMS with custom code to cut loading times, adding meta tags to every important page so Google could correctly index the content, implementing a CDN to serve assets from geographically closer servers, and switching to optimal image formats for each browser type.
Keyword research and clustering
We built the new keyword list two ways: a competitor gap analysis using Ahrefs and direct interviews with the Cannadips team to understand the exact terms their ideal customers use. From that combined list we filtered for moderate to high search volume, low to moderate difficulty, and strong match to buyer intent.

We then prioritized bottom-of-funnel keywords (BOFU): terms with clear purchase intent that could produce rankings fast and bring in buyers, not just browsers. Once the priority list was set, we grouped keywords into clusters, producing blog posts designed to answer the specific queries within each cluster. Clusters were ordered by expected impact, so the highest-return content shipped first.

Link building ran in parallel. Six high-authority backlinks per month were placed to reinforce the new domain's authority as the content went live. Our off-page SEO work supported the migration recovery by signaling to Google that the new domain deserved the authority previously held by the old one.
Results
SEO typically takes six months or more to show meaningful movement. The Cannadips migration compressed that timeline to one month.
- Organic keyword rankings recovered from 100 to 2,700.

- Monthly organic traffic recovered from 2,000 to 26,000 visits, a 1,200% increase.

- Over 150 first-page search results.

Bottom-funnel keyword positions

Key takeaways
- A domain migration without a proper content audit and 301 redirect map can wipe out years of SEO equity in days. A systematic inventory of every ranking URL, matched to its republished destination on the new domain, is what makes recovery possible. See our technical SEO services for how we run this process.
- Consolidating a second legacy domain (cannadipscbd.com) at the same time as the primary recovery amplified the result. Treating both migration tasks as a single project prevented a second traffic cliff later.
- Pairing the migration recovery with a focused BOFU keyword push meant Cannadips did not just return to their old peak; the new content gave them incremental positions they had never held before. Organic search is a compounding asset when recovery and growth are worked in parallel from day one.
