Best Directories for MSPs: Which Listings Matter

The directories worth an MSP's time in the United States: core map listings, review sites IT buyers check, partner directories and the listings to skip.

The directories worth a managed service provider's (MSP's) time in the United States are a short list: Google Business Profile (GBP), Bing Places for Business, Apple Business, Yelp and the Better Business Bureau (BBB), then Clutch, G2 and the Microsoft partner directory for business-to-business (B2B) buyers. Your local chamber and one or two MSP-specific lists round it out. Past that point, most directories add little and some add risk. Get the core profiles identical first, then spend time only where buyers or reviews actually live.

Directory profiles do three jobs for an MSP. They confirm your name, address and phone number (NAP) to search engines, they give buyers a second place to check your reviews, and they are public pages that artificial intelligence (AI) assistants may retrieve when someone asks for a provider. Treat the links themselves as a floor, not a link building plan. The editorial work that moves authority is covered in our MSP link building strategy.

These are the profiles most MSPs should own and keep accurate, with one condition that runs through the map listings. Google Business Profile is only for businesses that meet clients in person, at an office clients can visit or on their sites; a fully remote MSP is not eligible. Bing Places asks for the same thing, an address customers visit or staff who go out to customers. An Apple Maps place card belongs to a physical location where customers are served; without one, Apple Business still covers your brand details. Yelp is built for consumer-facing businesses with a local presence and lists business-to-business firms at its own discretion, so claim the page if Yelp has one for you. A fully remote MSP's shortlist is Apple Business for brand details, the review and vendor directories below, and the trade lists. You can hold a listing on each of them without paying.

Directory What it is good for Cost model Priority
Google Business Profile Map results, reviews and the profile most local buyers see first Free Do first if you meet clients in person
Bing Places for Business Bing search and Bing Maps; it can import your listing from Google Free Do first if clients visit you or you visit them
Apple Business (formerly Apple Business Connect) A place card in Apple Maps for a location clients can visit; brand details, such as your logo in Branded Mail, even without one Free Do first if clients visit your office
Yelp A widely seen local listing; claim it so the facts and review replies are yours Free listing; paid ads Claim it if Yelp lists you
Better Business Bureau Buyers who check BBB before signing; BBB publishes profiles whether or not you are accredited Free profile; accreditation carries annual dues Medium

Two of these changed recently. Bing moved its business portal to bing.com/forbusiness in October 2025 and reworked the Google import. Apple replaced Business Connect with Apple Business in April 2026 and migrated existing place cards automatically, so check that your claimed location carried over. The full setup for the most important profile is in our guide to Google Business Profile for MSPs.

On BBB, accreditation is optional. BBB says its rating is based on complaint history and how a business handles customers, not on whether it pays dues. Claim the free profile and answer any complaint on it. Pay for accreditation only if your buyers mention it.

B2B Review and Partner Directories

These are where information technology (IT) buyers and their advisers compare providers. They matter more than any generic local directory.

Directory What it is good for Cost model Priority
Clutch A managed IT services category with verified client reviews and interviews Free listing; paid sponsorship High
G2 A Managed IT Services Providers category with buyer reviews Free profile; paid plans Medium
Microsoft Marketplace partner directory Customers searching for a Microsoft partner by expertise and location; leads route to your partner account Requires enrollment in a Microsoft partner program High if you resell Microsoft
Cloudtango An MSP-only directory with city pages and annual rankings Check current terms Medium
Expertise.com Researched city lists, including an IT MSP category; inclusion follows its own vetting Editorial selection Update it if you are listed
CRN MSP 500 An annual recognition list in three categories: Elite 150, Pioneer 250 and Security 100 Editorial list; check CRN for the entry process Worth it for credibility

Clutch labels sponsored listings and says it may earn a fee for some placements, so a top spot on a category page is not the same as a top rating. Your verified reviews are what a buyer reads. Ask every client for an honest review after each completed project, whatever you expect them to say, rather than chasing volume once a year. Our MSP reputation management page covers that habit in detail.

The Microsoft profile is the most overlooked. Microsoft's own documentation says its Find a Partner search relies on the expertise tags you choose and on the Solutions Partner designations you hold, and it advises fewer, accurate tags over many. Write the description in plain language about what you do for clients, and review it every quarter. Check whether the other vendors and distributors you buy through run a referral program too. Pax8, for example, runs a page that matches small businesses with an IT partner.

Associations and Local Directories

Membership groups are worth joining for the people, not the listing. The ASCII Group, a peer community for MSP owners, became part of the Global Technology Industry Association (GTIA), the IT channel trade association that grew out of CompTIA, in 2026. Its value is member referrals and subcontracting; its site shows a private member forum, not a public directory.

Your local chamber of commerce is different: chambers commonly list members in a directory, and some link to member websites. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce runs a directory of local chambers by state and city. Join the chamber in the town you actually serve, then ask for a member page that links to your city or service page rather than your homepage.

NAP Consistency: One Version of Your Business

Every profile should carry the same business name, address and main phone number, spelled the same way. Google's guidelines say your name should reflect your real-world name and that unnecessary additions are not permitted, so drop the "Managed IT Services Dallas" suffix. Google also asks for a local number under your direct control and says service-area businesses should hide their address from customers. If you are deciding how to list a home office or a shared suite, read our guide on service area versus office address.

  1. Write down the canonical version: legal or trading name, street address and suite number, main number and website address. Some platforms reformat designations on their own (Yelp turns "Suite" into "Ste."); that is fine, as long as the actual address and suite number match everywhere.
  2. Fix Google first, then import into Bing and update Apple, so the three map platforms match.
  3. Work through Yelp, BBB, Clutch, G2 and the Microsoft profile with the same text.
  4. Search your old phone number and old address to find stray listings, then correct or remove them.
  5. After a move or a rebrand, repeat the whole pass within a week.

How to Spot a Spam Directory

Google's spam policies list "low-quality directory or bookmark site links" as an example of link spam. Most of these sites look alike:

  • They accept anyone who pays, with no check that you exist.
  • Their category pages mix MSPs with plumbers, casinos and supplement stores.
  • They want a reciprocal link or a fee before your listing goes live.
  • No buyer would ever land on them, because they do not appear in search for their own categories.

The test: would a prospective client ever see this page? If not, skip it.

What to Skip

Skip bulk submission packages that pick the directories for you, keep the logins and offer no way to update listings later. Copies you cannot edit go stale, and each outdated one contradicts the profiles that matter. Skip paid "top MSP" badges from sites with no visible selection method. Never list an address where you have no office. Service-area and regional listings are a separate question, so check each directory's own rules: Microsoft, for example, lets partners in its AI Cloud Partner Program publish Services profiles without a physical address in each location. And skip vendor locators for products you no longer sell actively.

Directories and AI Answers

AI assistants that search the web can retrieve many of the same public pages a buyer would, where a site lets their crawlers in, and directory profiles are among them. A profile that says the same thing as your website reinforces who you are. One with an old address, a different name or a two-line description gives the model a second, weaker version of your business. Apple also says Apple Business details appear across Maps, Wallet and other Apple apps, so a stale place card follows you beyond the map.

At Cortavo, the program's authority phase included review diversity across Clutch, G2 and Google alongside digital public relations (PR) placements. By May 2026 Cortavo had four times as many AI citations as its closest competitor, with 224 tracked mentions. That came from the whole program, not directories alone. Questions

Frequently asked questions

How many directories should an MSP be listed in?

Fewer than most citation services suggest. A managed service provider (MSP) in the United States that meets clients in person, at its office or on site, needs Google Business Profile; a fully remote MSP is not eligible. The same in-person test applies to Bing Places for Business; Yelp lists business-to-business firms at its own discretion, so claim yours if it exists. Most MSPs also want Apple Business and a Better Business Bureau (BBB) profile, plus Clutch, G2 and the Microsoft partner directory if they resell Microsoft. Add your local chamber and one or two MSP-specific lists. A short list of accurate profiles you maintain beats hundreds you never update.

Do directory links help an MSP rank in Google?

A little, and mostly indirectly. Core listings confirm your name, address and phone number, which supports map rankings, and a few directories send real referral visits. Google's spam policies name low-quality directory links as link spam, so volume does not help. For a managed service provider (MSP), editorial links from publications and partners do the heavy lifting; directories are the floor beneath them.

Is Better Business Bureau accreditation worth paying for?

Only if your buyers bring it up. The Better Business Bureau (BBB) publishes profiles for accredited and non-accredited businesses alike, and says accreditation is separate from its rating, which rests on complaint history and how a business treats customers. Claim the free profile, keep the details current and answer any complaint promptly. Treat the annual dues as a sales decision, not a search one.

Should an MSP pay for a bulk citation submission service?

Only for one that leaves you in control. Avoid any package that picks hundreds of sites for you, keeps the logins and offers no way to update listings later. When a managed service provider (MSP) moves office or changes its phone number, every copy it cannot edit becomes a conflicting record. Some providers do hand over account details, so ask before you buy. Otherwise submit to the core map platforms and the business-to-business (B2B) review sites by hand, and keep a list of every login.

Does Yelp matter for a B2B IT provider?

Enough to claim. A business-to-business (B2B) information technology (IT) provider will rarely win a contract from Yelp, and Yelp lists B2B firms at its own discretion. If a page for your business exists, claim it: an unclaimed page can carry wrong hours, an old address or unanswered reviews. Yelp says it is free to be listed, with paid ads optional. Match your details and skip the ads.

Which directory profiles do AI assistants read?

There is no single list to target. Artificial intelligence (AI) assistants that search the web may retrieve directory and review profiles they can access, but each runs its own crawler with its own rules, and some sites block automated access. Consistency matters more than coverage: when your website, Google Business Profile, Clutch and G2 profiles describe the same services in the same words, an assistant has one clear version of your firm to work from instead of several conflicting ones.
