Is GEO Worth It for MSPs? What Three Published Results Show

Is GEO worth it for an MSP? What Cortavo's $403,330 in contracted sales shows, why two SEO cases vary, and when to spend elsewhere first.

Generative engine optimization (GEO) is worth it for a managed service provider (MSP) when one new client is worth enough to repay months of work, your buyers research before they call, and you have specific proof an artificial intelligence (AI) assistant can cite. It is a poor buy if you need signed contracts this quarter. The best evidence NUOPTIMA has published is Cortavo's $403,330 in contracted sales, attributed to organic plus AI search over 12 months: a 4.6x return on $88,500 invested, with 224 tracked AI mentions.

Only Cortavo measured AI search directly. NUOPTIMA's two other published results in this space, Eden Data and Microminder, are search engine optimization (SEO) results for cybersecurity firms from 2022 to 2024. They show organic search compounding for technical businesses. They say nothing about AI answers.

NUOPTIMA ran all three engagements and wrote this page. Every figure below comes from the published case pages, and each section says what the evidence does not show.

The Verdict for MSP Owners

GEO is the work of making your firm the name AI assistants give when a buyer asks for a provider, in ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity and the rest. That is the definition on NUOPTIMA's GEO service page. For many buying prompts, those assistants return a short list of recommendations instead of a page of links. If your firm is not on the list, you may never learn the deal existed.

Three conditions decide whether that is worth paying for:

Condition Worth it when Spend elsewhere first when
Client value One retained client's gross profit over the contract covers months of the program You would need many new clients a year just to break even
Buyer behavior Prospects compare providers, involve several people and ask for recommendations before they call Most of your sales are one-off break-fix jobs that go to whoever answers the phone first
Proof You have named case studies, specific outcomes and reviews an assistant can check Your site says what every other MSP site says

If any row puts you in the right-hand column, fix that before you buy GEO. The signs you are not ready yet checklist goes deeper.

Infographic on whether generative engine optimization (GEO) is worth it for managed service providers (MSPs), showing three published NUOPTIMA results: Cortavo earned a 4.6 times return, $403,330 in contracted sales value on $88,500 invested over 12 months, plus 224 mentions in assistants such as ChatGPT, 4 times its closest competitor on fixed buyer prompts, while Eden Data grew traffic 11.6 times, from 66 to 446 monthly visits in six months, and Microminder gained more than $1 million in revenue attributed to search across the partnership from a new domain, both of them search engine optimization results with no published citation tracking.

What the Published Evidence Shows

These are the three results NUOPTIMA chose to publish for firms in this space. They are not averages, and they cover different spans: 12 months, six months and 23 months. Read them as three different curves.

Case Published result What it shows What it does not show
Cortavo, MSP, May 2025 to May 2026 $403,330 in contracted sales from organic plus AI search, a 4.6x return on $88,500; 8 new clients closed-won against a target of 5; 75 organic-sourced marketing qualified leads; 224 AI mentions and 4x more AI citations than the closest competitor; 261 to 10,000 organic visitors a month in 9 months; average Google position 42.6 to 9.2 Search and AI visibility can turn into signed contracts, counted in the client's own sales records How much of the $403,330 came from AI answers alone, or what your MSP would earn
Eden Data, cybersecurity and compliance consultancy, May to November 2023 Eden Data's 11.6x organic growth, from 66 to 446 monthly visits; a 400% increase in inbound leads, credited by its founder A focused search program can move fast when buyers search with a budget already approved Anything about AI answers: no citation tracking was published
Microminder, cybersecurity arm of an established technology group, August 2022 to July 2024 $0 to $1M+ in SEO revenue across the partnership, a 16.6x return on SEO spend; 3 to 4,503 ranking keywords; 14 to 5,333 monthly visits; roughly 20 quality leads a month A brand-new domain can build a large search footprint that produces leads Anything about AI answers, or how the revenue was attributed

The line that matters most: only Cortavo measured AI search. Eden Data and Microminder show search authority compounding for technical firms. Neither tells you what ChatGPT or Perplexity will do for your MSP.

What Cortavo Proves, and What It Does Not

When the program started in May 2025, Cortavo had an average Google position of 42.6 and almost no tracked organic pipeline. Generic terms such as "managed information technology (IT) services" belonged to far stronger domains. It was one MSP among many chasing the same page-one spots.

Three details make the result usable as evidence. Targets were agreed before any content was produced. Every lead was tagged at source in Cortavo's own customer relationship management (CRM) system, with separate tags for organic search and for AI referrals. And AI citations were counted against the same fixed set of buyer prompts every month, across ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity, so 224 mentions measures something consistent.

The most GEO-specific result is not a number. After the citation work landed, a new lead source appeared in Cortavo's CRM: buyers referred by an AI assistant. It has recurred every month since. That is the closest thing in NUOPTIMA's published record to proof that an AI answer produced pipeline.

Now the limits. The $403,330 is attributed to organic and AI search together, and the case does not split it, so nobody can tell you what AI answers alone were worth. The program combined search and AI work, so the evidence supports GEO bought alongside search work. None of the three results shows GEO working on its own; SEO vs GEO strategy covers how to split effort between the two. Even this result ran below breakeven in its early months, and the month by month GEO timeline shows when its traffic turned.

Why Two SEO Results Still Belong in the Decision

If Eden Data and Microminder are not GEO results, why show them? Because AI assistants build answers from what is already public: service pages, case studies, reviews and mentions on other sites. NUOPTIMA's working view is that the authority work behind Google rankings supplies most of that material. So an SEO result is a fair signal of whether the foundation can be built, though it proves nothing about the AI layer.

Eden Data sells cybersecurity and compliance services. Its program went after buyers who had hit a compliance wall and were searching for things like the cost of a certification, instead of broad security terms. In the first six months, May to November 2023, organic traffic grew 11.6x, from 66 to 446 monthly visits, and its founder credits the work with a 400% increase in inbound leads. The visit counts are small. The case's point is that they came from buyers with a mandate to spend.

Microminder is the longer case. It started in August 2022 on a brand-new domain with 3 ranking keywords and 14 monthly visits. By July 2024 it ranked for 4,503 keywords and drew 5,333 monthly visits, and the case reports roughly 20 quality leads a month and $1M+ in SEO-attributed revenue across the partnership, a 16.6x return on SEO spend. Two cautions: the page does not say how that revenue was attributed, and it does not show how much of it arrived in the first year.

Four Things That Decide Your Curve

Two MSPs can spend the same and get very different results, usually because they start from different places. Each driver below is tied to what it looked like in a published case.

Driver Check in your own firm What it looked like in a published case
Competition Who holds your generic terms today: local firms, national providers or directories Cortavo started at an average Google position of 42.6, with generic terms held by far stronger domains
Starting position Current rankings, indexed service pages, branded search and reviews Microminder started on a brand-new domain with 3 ranking keywords
Intent focus Whether you can name the searches buyers make once budget is approved Eden Data targeted compliance-trigger searches from buyers who already had to buy
Internal speed How fast your engineers review technical content and your sales team follows up Cortavo's engineers fact-checked every article before it was published

GEO sits on top of authority. If you have little, expect the early months to go into building it. For how the work itself is done, see NUOPTIMA's GEO strategy guide for MSP leaders.

Does the Math Work for Your MSP?

Judge GEO on gross profit: what one new client pays each month, times the months they stay, times your gross margin, set against the full cost of the program. If one or two extra clients a year clear that bar on conservative assumptions, the channel can make financial sense. Work out your GEO payback with your own numbers, and check what GEO costs an MSP before you compare quotes.

When GEO Is Not Worth It

GEO is the wrong next dollar in these situations. Where the better move is something NUOPTIMA also sells, the table says so.

Situation Better next move
You need signed contracts this quarter Paid search reaches buyers who are already looking, and outbound reaches the ones who are not. NUOPTIMA sells both, so weigh this advice with that in mind.
You cannot name one priority service and one priority buyer Fix positioning first. An assistant has no reason to recommend a firm that describes itself like every other MSP.
You want GEO with no search foundation under it Start with search, or budget for both. None of the published results shows GEO working without it.
Your service desk could not onboard several new clients next quarter Fix capacity before you create demand.
Nobody on your team will review technical content Wait. An unreviewed claim does more damage once an AI assistant starts repeating it.
You have no case studies, thin service pages or pages Google has not indexed Work through signs you are not ready yet first.

The common mistake is buying GEO to cover for a vague offer or a sales team that does not follow up. It fixes neither, and it puts both in front of more buyers.

Bottom Line

For an MSP with high-value recurring contracts, buyers who research before they call and proof worth citing, GEO is worth buying as part of a search program. Cortavo shows what a strong year looked like. None of the three published results is a forecast for your firm.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Is GEO worth it for MSPs?

GEO is worth it for an MSP whose clients are worth enough in gross profit to repay months of work, whose buyers research before they call, and who has specific proof for AI assistants to cite. It is a poor buy for an MSP that needs signed contracts this quarter or cannot say clearly what it does better than rivals. NUOPTIMA's best published evidence is Cortavo: $403,330 in contracted sales from organic plus AI search over 12 months.

What result shows GEO can work for an MSP?

Cortavo is the one published NUOPTIMA case that measured AI search directly. From May 2025 to May 2026 it reports $403,330 in contracted sales from organic plus AI search, a 4.6x return on $88,500 invested, 8 new clients, 75 organic-sourced marketing qualified leads and 224 AI mentions. Across a fixed set of buyer prompts, Cortavo earned 4x more AI citations than its closest competitor.

Do Eden Data and Microminder prove GEO works?

No. Both are search engine optimization results for cybersecurity firms from 2022 to 2024, and neither case published AI citation data. Eden Data grew organic traffic 11.6x in six months. Microminder went from 3 to 4,503 ranking keywords over 23 months. They show search authority compounding for technical firms, which is the base AI assistants draw on. They do not show what AI answers will do for your MSP.

Is all of Cortavo's $403,330 from AI search?

No. The case attributes $403,330 to organic and AI search together, tagged in Cortavo's own sales records, and does not split the two. The AI-specific evidence sits alongside it: 224 tracked mentions, 4x the closest competitor's citations, and a new lead source for buyers referred by AI assistants that appeared once the citation work landed. Treat the $403,330 as the result of one combined search and AI program.

When is GEO not worth it?

GEO is not worth it when you need signed contracts this quarter, cannot name one priority service and buyer, have no case studies or a weak website, cannot onboard new clients, or have nobody to review technical content. Spend first on positioning, proof, the website, sales follow-up or capacity. If the need is pipeline this quarter, paid search and outbound start conversations faster than GEO can.
